Before I formed thee in the in the belly I knew thee;and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV)
I can’t image what Jeremiah felt or thought when the Lord spoke those words to him for the first time. Was Jeremiah confused? Was he afraid? Did he think he imagined the Lord’s voice? The Book of Jeremiah doesn’t actually say what Jeremiah felt. But, it does say that Jeremiah answered the Lord. In Jeremiah 1:6 he states;
Ah Sovereign Lord, I said, I do not know how to speak, I am only a child.
But it doesn’t end there. The Lord responds to Jeremiah by saying, Do not say, I am only a child. Again, I can’t imagine what Jeremiah felt or thought, but, I do know the Lord spoke to him again. Jeremiah was told he MUST go to everyone the Lord sends him to and he MUST say everthing he commands him to say.
But what I found extremely intersting is what the Lord did to Jeremiah. In Jeremiah 1:9,10 it states;
Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, now, I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.
Again, I can’t imagine what Jeremiah felt. But, as I continued reading the first chapter in the Book of Jeremiah I soon realized I could easily relate to him and I just knew we had alot more in common than I ever thought possible.
